The Work of Meister Eckhart and C.G. Jung

Explore the suprising connections between C.G. Jung and the 12th century mystical theologian Meister Eckhart in this course. Jung regularly quoted Eckhart in his writings on religion and psyche, and Jung's concept of the Self and Eckhart's "grunt" or "ground" are very similar. Discussed are mysticism and individuation as seen by a 12th century mystic and a 20th century psychoanalyst. Compared and contrasted are themes such as Self, ground, libido, evil, feminine, paradox and wholeness.

Recommended reading for this class: The Mystical Thought of Meister Eckhart: The Man from Whom God Hid Nothing by Bernard McGinn.
