That Old Time Religion Ain't Good Enough For Me

Why is it that, for so many of us, religion has wounded rather than healed?

The Latin roots of the word "religion," ligare (which means to tie, bind, or connect) and re- (which assumes that something is broken or estranged), reveal the true function of religion: to reconnect that which is fragmented or estranged, both in the inner and outer worlds.  Can we have a healthy religious outlook?  How can sacred stories and symbols heal?  What is the difference between religion and spirituality?  This course addresses these questions as well as the questions the participants brought concerning the religious nature of the psyche and the nature of contemporary religion.
