Description

Instructor: Jill Carroll

Some say religion is the oldest cultural production of the human species.

In this class, we take a broad view of the world’s greatest, most influential religions including Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Sikhism, Shinto, Confucianism, and Taoism. However, rather than going through these religions one by one, we choose a topic or theme each week and discuss how various religions approach that topic.

Topics include the nature of the ultimate, the human quest, sacred texts, ritual, gender and sexuality, war and violence, and others. We will include discussions of the founding figures, major beliefs, and dominant practices so as to have a working knowledge of how these religions affect the lives of billions upon billions of people.

8 classes, instant access by MP3 download, recorded in the fall of 2014.
