What is the meaning of soul? Jung suggested that we do not evolve in a linear way; rather, we circumambulate, or walk around, the (S)elf. Jung’s concept of the Self is essential to understanding his approach to human development, which he termed individuation. Jung referred to the Self paradoxically as “at the center and circumference of the psyche” and “both [the] essence and totality of the individual.” In this class, we explore the structure and dynamics of the psyche, the relation between the ego and the Self, and the appearance of the Self as the imago Dei, or image of God.
