Movement, Relationship, and Conscious Aging: Movement as a Pathway for Awareness and Meaning
Over the course of a lifetime, movement shapes far more than physical capacity. It influences how we adapt to change, relate to others, and remain engaged with the world as our bodies and lives evolve.
Movement in later life is often framed around maintenance or the prevention of decline. When held too narrowly, physical practice can lose its capacity to invite curiosity, creativity, and meaning.
In this Lunch & Learn, Lance Westendarp, ND, LAc explores movement as an ongoing process of awareness and relationship. Physical capacities such as balance, coordination, rhythm, and strength are approached not as isolated exercises, but as living skills shaped through attention, connection, and shared experience. Drawing from movement education, clinical practice, and contemplative traditions, the talk invites reflection on how physical practice can remain engaging, relevant, and alive across a wide range of abilities.
This session includes time for reflection and Q&A.
Lance Westendarp, ND, LAc is a Houston-based movement educator and integrative healthcare provider. He holds a doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine and a master’s degree in Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine from Bastyr University and completed a primary care residency with advanced training in orthopedics, sports medicine, and mind-body medicine. He is currently enrolled in a five-year advanced course in radically reimagined integrative physical education with movement educator Marcello Palazzo. His work explores how physical practice, perception, and attention shape health, learning, and meaningful engagement with the world.
