Description

In this workshop we will learn to write poetry. We will use mindfulness to slow down our observations and record our discoveries. We will play games to help us connect concepts and make our writing more elevated. In the end, we will share our work in an in-class open mic. Let’s demystify poetry and make communication simple, fun, and beautiful.

Kiara Carter has been an artist and educator for over 10 years. She has taught workshops and classes throughout Houston and Galveston with Iconoclast Artists and Writers In The Schools. She has facilitated community circles and creative circles for a variety of groups including We Practice Life. She graduated from the University of Houston with a BA in Creative Writing and a focus in Poetry. As an artist, she knows that creativity cannot happen without risk and that can be intimidating. But when we create in a safe and play-filled environment, some of our greatest works emerge.
