Deeply explore the impacts fantasy and imagination can have on our life experiences, understanding, healing, and individuation.
Description
Let’s think more deeply about the place of fantasy in our lives. What happens when active imagination escapes the therapeutic space and wanders around wild in the world? Who is capable of, or vulnerable to, the danger of excessive imagination and why? When should we start to worry about fantasy life? How can the ego’s reflective engagement with the inner characters that spontaneously form in response to life experiences contribute to understanding, healing and individuation?
In this four week course, we will explore; the evolution of Jung’s thinking about fantasy and active imagination, the common principles which underpin and connect a wide variety of imaginal human experiences, the relationship of fantasy to neurodiversity: Giftedness, ADHD/ADD and Autism spectrum, and familiarize ourselves with Richard Schwartz’s Internal Family Systems approach to interaction with internal figures.
Prerequisite: “Daydream Believer,” a recorded class available for registration and viewing until April 1, 2025.
