How do you want to spend your elder years?

Description

Today, most people approaching elderhood can expect to live another twenty to thirty years.  But how do you want to spend that time?  Sage-ing (also known as Spiritual Eldering or Conscious Aging) is a model for living more consciously, more joyfully, and with greater compassion.  Sage-ing can help us develop a balanced plan for our elder years that is both personally fulfilling and beneficial to others.  In this interactive, two-day workshop, we'll explore the key concepts of Sage-ing: reviewing the trajectory and themes of your life, the importance of forgiveness, and issues surrounding our mortality.  Through exploring our feelings about aging and understanding the role of spiritual development in the process, we'll develop a personalized plan for our elder years that includes serving others and leaving an intentional legacy.

Mel Taylor, MSW, retired as a successful social worker and non-profit executive three years ago – after working on a retirement and “next stage of life” plan. He is a facilitator, certified mindfulness meditation teacher, yoga teacher, and is currently a Sage-ing Leader intern. The exploration of the second half of his life led him to the work of Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, and to pursuing a deeper understanding of the phases of aging. He is particularly curious as to how elders can find joy, discover what really matters, and explore heart-centered identity recovery – answering the question: “Who am I without initials after my name?”
