Come build a foundational understanding of the sometimes-overwhelming basics of estate planning – wills, deeds, power of attorney, and much more!

Description

Regardless of your age, it is essential to get your legal affairs in order. The older we get, the more pressing it is to take care of these tasks that many people keep postponing for “one day soon.” Days can turn into years, and this necessary business often never gets done – leaving bereaved families to deal with much more than heartache. Simply beginning the process can be confusing and overwhelming to many people, contributing to the avoidance of this serious business. So come build a foundational understanding of the basics of the whole process with a lawyer that specializes in helping people make these plans! Explore the probate process, the differences between wills and trusts, between durable and statutory powers of attorney, between warranty and ladybird deeds, and more. This workshop may be the nudge you need to get the ball rolling!

Michael Holland served in the U.S Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1979. After working for a chain of hardware stores in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, he attended Texas Southern University Law School and graduated in 1988 with a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) Degree. He started his Houston-based solo legal practice in 1992. He specializes in Elder Law and is a member of NAELA, National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, Inc. The focus of Holland's practice is helping individuals and families with all aspects of estate planning. He also helps clients navigate through the complexities of Medicaid and Miller Trusts in order to obtain help from Medicaid for paying the high costs of nursing home care. In his spare time, he and his wife enjoy riding their Paso Fino horses.
