Capturing Meaning through Video Storytelling (In-Person)

Learn how to create meaningful video narratives without expensive equipment or prior experience. Some consider this a new golden age of image and video, as many of us carry more recording power on our cell phones than was available for much of the history of video journalism. We record public and private moments with the ease of a click. But how do we shape them into stories that communicate the meaning of our experiences? With hands-on training, we will discover how to develop narrative using storyboards and our video equipment, from the simplest phone to more complex video and DSLR cameras. No experience is necessary. Please bring your camera, a notebook, and a laptop or tablet if you have one.

A seasoned international journalist, Patricia Gras has received more than 170 journalism awards including eight television Emmys. She speaks five languages and holds three master’s degrees including a master’s in journalism from Columbia University. She recently released her book, The Yin and Yang of a Small Fish in a Big Murky Pond, about her personal and career experiences while working for Houston PBS.
