Facilitating Dream Circles, Part I: A Training Course for Depth Professionals (Online)

Are you a therapist, have at least 20 hours of Jungian analysis, or are a professional that consciously engages with archetypal ideas in your work? Are you also interested in building community through the Jungian-based exploration of dreams?

Whether we are professionally engaged with the unconscious, or have spent a considerable amount of time working with our inner lives under the supervision of a depth psychological professional, the time spent in the depths changes how we see the world, and how others see and relate to us. When we convene and facilitate a group that intends to share dreams with each other, our familiarity with the depths invites an authenticity from the participants that can become difficult to manage without specialized training in becoming a gentle, but radical, container for the unexpected and sometimes fantastic elements that can arise. This seven-week interactive class (the first of two parts) will deepen your understanding of what makes a dream group “Jungian”, and demonstrate how a shared language enhances cohesion, community, and our abilities both to allow and to contain what can emerge when dreams are shared. Through listening into Jung’s writings on dreams, conversationally constructing a framework for a Jungian dream container, and learning to be aware of sensations in our bodies and the contents of our minds, we will explore how some of the most fundamental concepts of Jungian psychology might present themselves in dream circles: archetypal energies, personality types, synchronicity, projection, transference and countertransference, and the personal and collective unconscious. We’ll also learn breath-work, sound, and movement techniques to assist in calming and grounding groups, and examples from myth, fairy tales, film, music, and astrology will enhance our understandings and light our way.

Reading packets will be distributed prior to the first class with no prior reading required.  Keeping a dream journal from the day you sign up for this class with notations about the day’s life context and your emotions upon waking will deepen your process.
