Description

In this four-week course, we will explore the wisdom traditions of Taoism, Buddhism, Stoicism, and Epicureanism. Focusing on the central teachings of each tradition that are most applicable to human life and thriving, we'll uncover the age-old ideas that can be most actualized in our specific individuals lives right now in the current moment. Through lecture on specific teachings, personal reflection, journaling, and small group discussion, we'll learn to apply the lessons of these ancient and revered traditions in our everyday lives.

Jill Carroll is a scholar in world religions and world philosophy, specializing in global wisdom traditions and the ways in which the world's great religions and philosophies offer pathways for people to make meaning in their lives.. She has published numerous books and articles in her field as well as in world religions, and religion and public life. She worked for many years as a lecturer and adjunct associate professor at Rice University and at several campuses of the University of Houston. She has taught continuing education classes in philosophy, world religions, and humanities at The Women’s Institute of Houston for over 25 years. She served as executive director of the Boniuk Center for Religious Tolerance at Rice University from 2004 to 2009, and is the creator and founding director of the Amazing Faiths Dinner Dialogues. She was a freelance writer for the Houston Chronicle for several years, writing columns on healthcare and gardening and a featured blog on religion. She has provided religious diversity and global skills training to corporations, non-profits, and other groups. She offers online enrichment classes in world religions and philosophy.
