Midlife is a season of change, often marked by a sense of ambiguity. We may feel called to expand our horizons, shift perspectives, or adapt to life in new ways, without a clear direction. Such callings invite big questions: "What areas of my life need to be examined to ensure a joyous and fulfilling future?" "How do we begin to recognize, and most of all accept, our own aging?"
In this introductory talk, Mel Taylor offers an orientation to a more meaningful second half of life. Together, we'll uncover what in our lives requires a fresh review, practice taking stock, and consider opportunities to find grounding and depth in our next steps.
Mel Taylor, MSW, retired as a successful social worker and non-profit executive three years ago – after working on a retirement and “next stage of life” plan. He is a facilitator, certified mindfulness meditation teacher, yoga teacher, and a Certified Sage-ing Leader. The exploration of the second half of his life led him to the work of Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, and to pursuing a deeper understanding of the phases of aging. He is particularly curious as to how elders can find joy, discover what really matters, and explore heart-centered identity recovery – answering the question: “Who am I without initials after my name?
