Nebulas by Stephanie Gonzalez is a body of work that explores the vast unknown — a reflection of both the cosmos and the current state of the world. Ethereal and luminous, these pieces focus on light, space, and the continuous cycle of transformation.
Nebulas are immense, glowing clouds of gas and dust — stellar nurseries where stars are born and remnants of those that have died. In this series, they serve as powerful metaphors for creation, destruction, evolution, and the interconnectedness of all things. Through these cosmic forms, I aim to express both personal and collective transformation, offering a visual meditation on resilience and regeneration.
Each work is created using acrylic paint and dye on paper. My process begins with a black background to represent the infinite void of space. Through a glazing technique with interference paints, I build luminous gas clusters that suggest movement and depth. For the stars, I apply a stippling method using a trio of acrylic markers to form consistent, radiant constellations.
Inspired by the current political climate, Nebulas seeks to bring a sense of peace amid chaos. Just as stars emerge from collapsing clouds, beauty can arise from breakdown. These works invite viewers to find light in the dark and to recognize the cycles of growth that come from both destruction and creation.
