Summary

Sarah Garcia | Thursday, Dec 4 | 12 - 1p CT | Explore the psychological and cultural roots of grief and loss while gaining practical tools for mindful healing, through media clips, Jungian insights, rituals, and reflective practices.

Description

Explore the shadow dimension of grief as it relates to our healing process. We'll touch on the origins of grief-related psychotherapy in the West, through Sigmund Freud, and consider the modern categories of complicated bereavement and prolonged grief disorder. Pivoting to some Jungian basics, we'll build a foundation for viewing a clip from Stranger Things (Netflix) Season 4 through a Jungian lens- to more deeply understand the lived experience of those with complicated or proloned grief. From this media example, and while acknowledging coping mechanisms, somatics of grief, and community support, we'll imagine possibilities for bringing unprocessed kernels of grief to light (awareness).
We'll close by highlighting practical approaches to the ongoing healing of grief- on a personal and relational level- through embodied & relational ritual, narrative, and continuing bonds.

NOTE: The clip from Stranger Things includes spooky imagery and content related to death- all rated PG13 for viewing. One (minor) spoiler included (you'll still enjoy the show after seeing this clip!)
